A focal point says a lot about the home
owner. It says that the home owner is proud of his home, appreciates style. Also
it often describe his/her passion, profession or simply taste. Use these
paintings and artifacts to create focal points in every room in your home.
ROOMS
 |
Entrance hall Great
place for introduction to your lifestyle. It is important you invest in
style here as it must be warm welcoming, and descriptive. Hidden lighting
opposite the door may highlight features which pull you into the house. For large walls
use a painting or collection of small paintings with one of our custom made
frames to suit your interiors. Cluttered displays are not recommended here.
Go for singular objects such as an artifact which describes culture and art.
If you got space and some natural light use green plants such as spider
plants against light coloured walls.

Living Room/Lounge This is
the living and entertainment place and here you are allowed to go bold! A
large painting of your taste should have accent lighting on it. A good theme
would be entertainment. Do not place
it over a TV as it clashes as a focal point. Collections are in place here.
Cultural artifacts may be placed in dedicated alcoves or recesses or simply
given attention by being isolated but lighted. Use lots of accent lighting
here! Use one medium size plant such as an indoor palm and if possible light
it from beneath.

Dining Room
Art is a must in the dining room because eating is an entertaining
experience. The Romans considered food as entertaining as sex and often used
mosaics and murals of women with food. That is not said one should do that!
However, as with the living room, an entertainment painting is very
appropriate here. If your style is classical, you may use large Roman still
life or figurative complemented on the sides with two classical Roman bowls
available from us

Bedroom Use of a
painting in a bedroom is very appropriate. Let your senses go free. The
bedroom is considered sacred for a couple, in their own way. It may be an
interesting abstract, religious, or purely sensual. Find a painting which
appeals to you in the full collection and do not go small size. An art
statement for both of you is perfect here.

Kids Bedroom
I will not repeat what many people
expect of colours such as pink or light blue for girls or boys. Rather I can
discuss air! Fresh air in a kids bedroom is essential but avoid draughts.
Avoid also air conditions which blow directly on the bed. Ideal environment
is 23 degrees with 60% humidity. A carpet is good insulation and makes the
room cosy but know that carpets need frequent cleaning not from the toys but
from dust. Asthma may be an issue for deciding on carpets but today there
are asthma friendly materials. Try not to use strong scents for insect
tablets unless you ensure ventilation. Freshen the air after kids wake up.
Do not use sprays before sleeping time. However mild eucalyptus scent from
an electric tablet/jar dispenser is a very good for colds. Kids artifacts?
Their favourite toys. Teenage kids? While it's probably totally out of your
control, let them experiment with style with their own taste.

Bathroom
The place where you relax in a bath
should be an enchanting place. The bathroom is not a convenience. It is a
sanctuary! Unclutter the shelves of all the bottles, toothpastes and
shampoos, just leave the very necessary ones and store the rest. Use a very
contrasting colour to the walls for the towels. Place carpets/mats near
sink, bath and toilet. Try to find ones which have just 2 colours but one of
the colour is the same as the towels. Invest in a radiator heater not a fan
heater. To finish off: Obtain two Parthenon Friezes from us and place them
around the bath; place green plants that love humidity on plant shelves
(obtainable anywhere at less than a fiver) and finally, Candles!

 |
Hall or Corridor This is
ideal for a series of paintings. Or how about this: hang wall reliefs (such
as the friezes in the artifacts gallery) with overhead lighting because the
subtle shadows created describe the piece of culture in great detail. It
would be great if light from overhead was dimmable. Unless the corridor is
wide enough do not place large 3d artifacts in the way but they are simply
perfect if the end of the corridor is a wall! Place a designer cultural
artifact here to draw the attention.

Paintings
Paintings are
wonderful in a home. They reflect art, cultured minds, dreams, skills and
impressions to which one relates. Paintings make excellent decorative art in
the house when chosen correctly. The rule is get what appeals to you
! However here are a few tips of what you can do. Do not try to match the
colours of the painting with the furniture, the framing will do that.
Instead try and match the theme and style. After you tell us the style of
the room, we will suggest the framing solution for you to fit the painting
you chose. We may also construct a completely custom made frame to fit your
environment. We will also suggest / recommend types of lighting, placement
and care.

Artifacts
Three dimensional art
is the art to go for when you want style with space. Imagine a plain wall
above a piece of furniture that you wish to enhance. What better thing to
have than a historical cultural artifact that is given importance, by its
space, light, stand and perhaps also framing? Tackling these one by one:
Space: A cultural artifact is a piece of high end art that has very long
story behind it so it is already rich, and probably in texture too! Allow
lots of space around it to give it focus. Light: Two options here, you may
use accent lighting to highlight reflections, reliefs and play with shadows
Or make a mysterious silhouette! Place a light behind it highlighting the
wall directly behind it allowing light to reflect off the wall and
silhouetting the artifact. Wow! Stand: Make a black rectangular box or
cylinder about the same height as the artifact to give it prominence. Frame:
Framing a 3D? Yes. If you still can make a recess in the wall or alcove with
a frame (same wall colour) around it. Alternatively one may frame it with
the shape of the light aura. In other words a cultural artifact which is
certainly a conversation starter must be given its appropriate importance.
Choose one of ours in the artifact gallery and we will suggest you the ideal
environment design for it.
